Bread Halwa Recipe | Without Kova

INGREDIENTS:

  • Bread - 7 slices
  • Ghee - 5 tablespoons
  • Cashews - 5, slit
  • Almonds - 5, chopped
  • Watermelon seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 100g
  • Water - 300ml
  • Ground cardamom - 2 pinches
  • Milk - 250 ml, boiled and cooled

  • Start by cutting the bread slices into small pieces and then grinding them coarsely in a mixer or blender.
  • Heat 3 tablespoons of ghee in a pan over medium flame. Add the chopped cashews and almonds, and sauté them for about a minute until they turn slightly golden. Transfer the roasted nuts to a separate bowl.
  • Using the same pan, reduce the flame to low and add the coarsely ground bread. Saute for approximately 10-15 minutes, or until the bread turns golden brown and becomes crisp. Remember to stir continuously to avoid burning. 
  • Once done, transfer the roasted bread crumbs to a separate plate.
  • In the same pan, over medium flame, add the sugar, water, and ground cardamom. Allow it to boil for about five minutes, forming a thick sugar syrup.
  • Add the roasted bread crumbs to the sugar syrup and mix well. Cook for another five minutes on medium flame, stirring continuously.
  • Next, add the cooled boiled milk and watermelon seeds to the pan. Stir everything together to ensure all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Reduce the flame to low and cover the pan. Let it cook for approximately five minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • After five minutes, remove the lid and add the roasted nuts and an additional 2 tablespoons of ghee to the pan. Mix well until the mixture thickens to the desired consistency.
  • Your delicious bread halwa is now ready to be served! Transfer it to a serving dish and enjoy it warm or cold, according to your preference. The inclusion of watermelon seeds in this recipe adds a unique touch and provides extra texture to the halwa.
